At yesterday’s colour belt grading held here in Brighton, Master Donatoe Nardizzi 8th Degree, President of Taekwon-Do Impact, presented Mr Howard Mayes 4th Degree. Instructor of Brighton and Hove Taekwon-Do School, with the winners shield for the inaugural Taekwon-Do Impact League.

Brighton and Hove Taekwon-Do School finished top of the table for the Taekwon-Do Impact School League in 2012.

This was a new competition introduced this year as an inter-school competition for colour belt students designed to provide more competitions for colour belt students but also education about competing and to help train coaches and officials. There were a series of smaller tournaments for juniors, teens and adults covering all events in competitions.

For all those that took part, competitors, coaches, officials and not least parents and friends giving their support; Congratulations on being league winners!

Brighton Martial Arts TKD Impact 2012 Exhibition Tournament

TAEKWON-DO EXHIBITION CHAMPIONSHIPS – SUNDAY 2nd DECEMBER 2012

The Impact Academy, Ground Floor Unit, Wandle Road Car Park, Innes Yard, Croydon CR0 1BX, on Sunday 2nd December 2012.

Model Sparring

Competitors will perform any combination of specific and accurate TKD techniques in response to a single attacking TKD hand or foot technique. This event is similar to ‘one-step’ sparring, except that the defending competitor is allowed to respond with a series of techniques, with an option of using slow motion, consecutive kicks, take-downs, etc. Teams of two students will demonstrate 10 routines which they will have practiced 5, defensive combinations for each competitor.

As with Pre-Arranged Free Sparring the objective here is to demonstrate skill in the categories of technical content, power, balance, breath-control, rhythm and choreography. Competitors should remember that referees will give more overall weight and consideration to technical Taekwon-Do prowess than choreography when making their decisions.

Pre-Arranged Free Sparring

Teams of two TKD students will prepare a choreographed free sparring routine lasting from 30 seconds up to 1 minute. Any number of attack and defence moves will be allowed within the designated time frame.

The objective is to demonstrate skill in the categories of technical content, power, balance, breath control, rhythm and choreography. Choreography covers the use of acrobatic skills, creative flare and showmanship within the routine, but competitors should remember that more consideration will be given to technical Taekwon-Do prowess than choreography by referees when making their decisions.

Team Patterns

Teams of three competitors will perform an optional pattern up to the lowest grade held by a team member. For example: a team comprising two Red Belts and a Blue Belt could perform any pattern of their choice up to Joong Gun Tul, but they would not be allowed to perform Hwa Rang Tul.

As with Pre-Arranged Free Sparring and Model Sparring the objective is to demonstrate skill in the categories of technical content, power, balance, breath-control, rhythm and choreography. Here choreography could include timing ‘splits’, directional synchronisation, etc, rather than the more generalised flare and showman made possible in the other events where competitors are expected to compose their own routines.

As with the other two events, competitors should remember that referees will give more consideration to technical Taekwon-Do prowess than choreography when making their decisions.

Each of the four events will be divided into under 13 and 13+ age categories.
